Surgery
One of the essential components of Simply Southern Animal Hospital is our veterinary surgical center,
where Dr. Hayes uses his experience and advanced equipment to provide surgical services for the pets in
the Central and Greenwell Springs area.
Blood work is strongly recommended before any surgical procedure. Using our hospital’s in-house
diagnostics laboratory, we can obtain blood testing results in a matter of minutes. We can determine
liver, kidney, and pancreatic function, along with electrolyte levels. Our complete blood count (CBC)
unit provides red and white blood cell counts, along with platelet analysis. These values provide
valuable information to Dr. Hayes which could not be determined by a physical exam alone and assists
him in deciding whether an animal is a healthy candidate for surgery.
Pain prevention is highly recommended for most surgeries performer at Simply Southern Animal Hospital. Remember that our
pets feel pain in much the same way we do. Pain medication will be dispensed post-surgery to help
ensure your pet remains as comfortable as possible.
During the surgical procedure, the heart rate, temperature and respiratory rate of each pet are
monitored continuously by our experienced veterinarian and staff. If the pet experienced trauma or the
required surgery is particularly invasive, monitoring will continue in the intensive care unit (ICU) section
of our hospital.
Dr. Chris Hayes performs many types of surgery, ranging from routine procedures to more
complicated operations. Some of the many surgeries we perform include ovariohysterectomy (spay),
neuter, dewclaw removal, declawing, mass/tumor removal, enucleation (eye removal),
foreign body removal, and bladder stone removal. If your pet is in need of a procedure not listed here, please
call us for more information.
